Meet Ms. Mitchell!

Ms. Mitchell had a rigorous musical education in Lynchburg, Virginia when she was growing up, performing with her middle and high school bands, marching band, community orchestra, and multiple honor bands up and down the East Coast. Ms. M completed her Bachelor of Music in 2023 and her Master of Education in 2024, both at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She is a classically-trained bassoonist who has performed in orchestras and wind band groups across the United States, in Italy, and in Colombia.

Ms. Mitchell is in her second year as Band Director at North Garner Middle School. In her first year, she was named Beginning Teacher of the Year for NGMS and was a finalist for WCPSS's Diane Kent Parker First-Year Teacher Award. In addition to directing the Band program, Ms. Mitchell serves as a resource to other Beginning Teachers in the district by serving on BT panels and assisting with Professional Development.

When she's not in the band room, you can find her rehearsing with her performance groups (including the Triangle Pride Band), exploring Raleigh with friends, finding her new favorite coffee shop, or at home cuddling her two cats, Luna and Celeste.
